| The
United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) announced on
May 8, 2009, that the City of
Albion Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was awarded a $200,000
Brownfield Site Assessment Grant. The Albion BRA intends to use the
grant funds to identify and prioritize properties within Albion that are
suitable for redevelopment but that may be stalled because of potential
environmental issues. For those properties with the best redevelopment
potential the grant funds will be used to conduct environmental due
diligence and assessment activities on the properties.
Albion Economic Development Corporation
President Peggy Sindt was pleased to learn of the award. “This is a
great opportunity for Albion to better position some of our available
sites for redevelopment.”
Brownfield Grants are an important
part of the funding stream for bringing properties back into productive
use that have been sidelined because of environmental issues.
With minimum public investment, Brownfield
projects can result in clean, affordable land for new developments,
reduce neighborhood blight, preserve greenspace, generate tax revenues
for schools, and create jobs. U.S. EPA funds will help the City as a
whole realize a better economic and environmental future for our area.
The Albion BRA
recognizes a need for public assistance to redevelop Brownfield’s in our
community. For more information about the Albion BRA Brownfield Award
or to see the draft work plan please go to
www.albionedc.org,
or the Albion District Library. Public comments on the work plan are
invited and can be sent to Albion BRA, P.O. Box 725 Albion, to
